5 NOVEMBER Read Alouds for First Grade
Fall has come and it’s time to settle into the month of sweaters, pumpkin spice, and fall read alouds. These five read alouds will supply you with some engaging books your students will learn to love!
Veteran’s Day, by Allan Morey, is an informative book I use to supplement in teaching my firsties about Veteran’s Day. It gives a brief history of Veteran’s Day and even includes a musical version of the book online.
Do you have any students in your class who find it hard to get to know new students? Enemy Pie is a classic story of a father conning his son into becoming friends with a new kid on the block. It’s a well told story by Derek Munson, definitely a student favorite! One extra perk of Enemy Pie is that it is available as a video read aloud at www.storylineonline.net.
Thankful, by Eileen Spinelli, is a beautifully written story about taking time to thank those around you! Your students will LOVE making little notes to share with the ones they love the most. Even though I use this book in November, it’s written to be a book about thankfulness and can be used any time of year!
A Plump and Perky Turkey…such a fun book about a worried turkey who knows Thanksgiving is coming! The townspeople have yet to find a turkey and they come up with a plan to trick a turkey into being their dinner. Plot twist!! This turkey gets away in the process and is able to hid among the disguises! Kids love this hilarious book.
Clever Jack Takes the Cake, by Candace Fleming, may just be my all time favorite fairy tale. It’s a story about a poor boy who wants to attend the Princess’ birthday. He scrapes up all the ingredients for a cake and then travels a long way to attend the party. Along the way, several mishaps lead to his cakes’ demise and he ends up only with a story to gift the princess! Seriously, worth the read and your students will thank you for the story!
That’s a wrap! Keep an eye out for further blog posts about next months read alouds! And don’t forget to subscribe below to get updates of new blog posts!
