5 JANUARY Read Alouds for First Grade
January is a time to reteach a few rules, get back into the rhythm of classroom routines, and hopefully a little snow in the forecast! These five read alouds will help supplement your January curricula with engaging, kid loved stories!
TACKY THE PENGUIN
Beloved Tacky is just one of my firsties’ favorite characters! He’s goofy, different than the other penguins, and is always doing the wrong thing. This book will make your students laugh and is perfect for a snowy afternoon when you your class needs a little comic relief from the day to day lessons. SNOWMEN AT NIGHT
Have you ever thought of what snowmen do at night? This adorable book takes kids on an adventure following snowmen’s chosen activities after the children all go to sleep. They will love getting to create their own snowman’s story and craft with my craft and written response found on TeachersPayTeachers!
THE SNOWMAN
With a similar themed to Snowmen At Night, The Snowman by Raymond Briggs is a beautiful, wordless classic snowman story. The little boy in the story and his snowman have a night full of adventure without any words needed to tell of their amazing story. A BIG GUY TOOK MY BALL
Since I always love to add in a book or two not themed for that specific month, I added in an Elephant and Piggie by Mo Willems that I KNOW all firsties can relate to! A Big Guy Took My Ball is a story that will get them thinking of ways to solve problems with their classmates and kids on recess. SNEEZY THE SNOWMAN
Have you read Sneezy the Snowman yet? A student favorite, this fun snowman makes all kinds of crazy choices that end in melting himself! Your firsties will be engaged while writing their own event to add to the story- CLICK HERE to find my craft and written response from TeachersPayTeachers!
I hope you found some read alouds to add to your January list of reading! May your month of January be full of fun and if you are teaching in the right climate, snow!
